HOLLAND’S HIDDEN GEM

AS FEATURED IN COSMOPOLITAN HOME

This West Michigan home was designed to connect with its woodland surroundings from the start. Landscaping was central to the plan, not an afterthought. “We considered every detail and developed the landscape plan with Hollandia as we developed the house plans,” homeowner DeHaan told Cosmopolitan Home.

Blending a modern home into a natural setting required careful planning, material consistency, and a long-term vision. The goal: an outdoor space that felt effortless, enduring, and personal. Hollandia Outdoors collaborated with the architects from day one to create refined outdoor living areas that remained rooted in nature. Key features include:

  • A circular drive with a structured island

  • A pond with cascading waterfall

  • Patio featuring a pool, hot tub, fire pit, and outdoor kitchen

  • Woodland-inspired plantings with seasonal color

  • Northern Michigan stone used on both home and landscape for visual unity

“That intentionality is evident,” the article continues, “reinforcing a seamless connection between architecture and nature.”

The team used precise grading, layered plantings, and natural materials to tie every element together. Repeating the façade stone across the landscape created a grounded, cohesive feel with minimal impact on the environment.
